Straight Outta Compton
Discuss the ways in which media products are produced and distributed to the audience in Straight Outta Compton.

You could argue Straight Outta Compton is a hollywood blockbuster film due to its high production budget.Overall,it cost an estimated $50 million to produce. This was possible because the film was made by a conglomerate,Universal studios. Universal pictures has a co-production distribution deal with Legendary pictures, meaning that NBC Universal used vertical integration to produce and distribute the film. This was a high concept film, because it was based on pre-existing material the rap group N.W.A whom are already well known. Therefore, this ensured the film was a success as there was already a global fan base.

Straight Outta Compton was released in 429 cinema's in the UK,making it a saturated release.NBC Universal opted to do this as they know the film had gained not of traction, therefore, this would be profitable for them.In addition, they released the film in the summer, which was a convenient time for a lot of people given that people were off school and work.

Analysis Task 2

Neale stated that ‘genres are instances of repetition and difference’. Discuss what this statement means in relation to the duel scene from The Magnificent 7, directed by Antoine Fuqua? Use specific  evidence from the scene to support your ideas. In the Magnificent 7 duel scene we can see that 'genres are instances of repetition and difference'. The setting of the scene is similar to many other western films. The setting is desert like, with a stable, ranches and a canyon in the background.in addition,we see horses at the start of the scene which is common for cowboys to ride on. The protagonist in the scene shows some similarities and differences to a typical cowboy. In the scene he participates in a duel with another cowboy.Duels are a common feature of a western film. However, how he wins this duel is different to what we would expect. The person he is duelling against,is using an ordinary revolver pistol, whereas he uses a knife. This makes it even more impressiv...

Choose one of the following stills Discuss how the use of voiceover helps to create meaning   The voiceover says “I’m not cute”. The women’s facial expressions show this. She is biting down on her gum shield, which makes her seem aggressive. This challenges the stereotype that women are soft and “cute”. In what ways could you argue that this shot challenges van Zoonen’s notion of objectification because of the meanings created by the use of sound, mise-en-scene and camerawork In the right image the long shot emphasises that women are no longer seen as just housewives..We can see that man is holding a baby in the air. This connotes that he is looking after his child. This goes against the stereotypical view of   men going to work and women staying at home. This shows that feminism has come along way,as men are starting to do the same roles as women, and therefore are somewhat equal. Slow motion causes the reader to focus on the woman’s bottom. This suggests that wome...
