Holiday work

Woman:
From the magazine (left hand side) we can see that women are seen as sexual objects by men.The use of the tight frame intentionally brings the women to the centre of our attention. We can see that she is wearing no clothing, which would suggest that the publisher is encouraging us to look at her in a sexual way, encaptulating the views of men in that time period. The tight frame camera technique also represents how women where trapped into their roles as housewives.

Continuity editing demonstrates how women were dependant on men for acceptance and protection. In the shot on the left we can see four shots presented in a chronological manner,,which captures a man walking towards a women whilst she is doing her makeup. The shot where the man reaches the woman is the largest on the page.As it is the largest picture,it infers that main importance of make-up is to meet the  expectations of men.

On the cover of Vogue magazine several close-ups are used. This emphasises how important beauty was to women. From knowing some of the context around this time period,we know that women were pressured to have a  good appearance for men.In addition, she is wearing fancy ear-rings,which also enhance her appearance.

From the use of lighting techniques we can see that women did not have to make important decisions. The high-key lighting makes women appear happy, and suggests that her lifestyle is easy-going with nothing to worry about. Her smiley facial expressesions also portray this image of women. The editor may have done this to promote the housewife lifestyle in a positive way.
